how to dye my brown hair extentions light red?

my hair is light red, i use shwartzkopf 'infra red' permanent hair dye. I recently purchased some chocolate brown human hair extentions knowing that i could dye them. Unfortunately when i tried, they didnt turn out as light as my hair. Mybe i have to bleach them first and then try the dye but i dont want to damage the hair as they were quite pricey! any suggestions??

Before trying again I'd check with the manufacturer or the shop where you bought them.

i have just bought my sister in law some light brown extensions and i have dyed them red! they turned out perfect! normally human hair extensions are quite porous and take quite well to hair dyes, sometimes a little too easy! i would probably try using a low % bleach on them and then dye them red but do a strand test first and time it! Because they are already dark they wont take to the red as much as you would like, where as either light brown extensions would or bleached extensions would take better! good luck
